Portland State at Washington State

Washington State got off to a 4-0 start in 2023, but then went 1-7 the rest of the way so coach Jake Dickert went to the transfer portal to shore up things and the offensive line returns four starters. John Mateer has emerged as the starting quarterback after being the backup the past two seasons. The running game will be a work in progress. Nevertheless, the Cougars should have no trouble with FCS Portland State, which finished 5-6 last year and lost to Oregon 81-7 in the 2023 season opener. The Vikings allowed 35.9 points per game against FBS and FCS teams. The Cougars are capable of piling up the points especially against inferior opponents. They scored at least 50 points three times last season, including 64-21 against another FCS school Northern Colorado. Lay the points with Washington State.
