The Houston Cougars had the world on a string, but lost the C-USA Championship for their first loss of the season. Southern Mississippi beat them on their own field, and beat them convincingly. Houston played the weakest schedule of just about any mid-level conference in a Bowl game. Teams suffering their first and only loss of the season in their game prior to their Bowl game cover just 36% of the time. If they gave up 35 points or more in the process they cover 20% of the time. They have covered 0% of the time if they are favored, winning only once straight-up. Penn State has the defense to stop Houston and force mistakes, while the Nittanys aren’t very offensive, Houston’s soft defense will provide enough room to win this one, or at the very least get the cover.
