CFB Game of the Month - New Virginia coach Tony Elliott, the former Clemson offensive coordinator had a rude awakening in his first game against an FBS opponent as the Cavaliers' offense was stymied by Illinois losing 24-3. Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong was pressured all day and was sacked five times and the Cavaliers were 1-for-16 on third down and 1-for-4 on fourth down. Armstrong finished 13 of 32 for 180 yards and two interceptions and the running game averaged 1.4 yards per carry. That doesn't bode well for Virginia to cover double digits this week against Old Dominion, who opened with a 20-17 win over Virginia Tech before losing 39-21 to East Carolina. The Monarchs still have won and covered six of their past eight games dating to last season and the last time they played Virginia was in 2019 and they covered as 27-point underdogs while losing by 11. QB Hayden Wolff had a decent game against the Pirates completing 18 of 29 for 275 yards and three TDs with an interception, but the Monarchs couldn't get the running game going. Old Dominion has covered five straight against ACC opponents and eight of its past 11 September games. Virginia is 0-4 ATS its last four non-conference games and 1-5 ATS its last six overall. The lack of offense by the Cavaliers gives the Monarchs an opportunity to win outright. For my Game of the Month, take Old Dominion ATS. I'm also recommending a value play on the Monarchs on the moneyline.
