The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet in the Capital One Bowl. There is a huge difference between this year's Nebraska team than last year. The Cornhuskers allowed just one team to top the 24-point mark in regulation a year ago, while this season the defense has not been nearly on the same level, with six teams going for 27+ against Nebraska. The Gamecocks’ offense has been better of late, scoring 24+ in seven games this season. Perhaps one of the biggest factors surrounding this game and the defenses is that both teams have lost their defensive coordinators to head coaching jobs. South Carolina's Ellis Johnson is heading to Southern Miss., while Nebraska's Carl Pelini is off to Florida Atlantic. Nebraska played as an underdog just two times this season, but when they did their defense was exposed, allowing 45 points to Michigan and 48 to Wisconsin. Nebraska was posted as a -9 favorite or more eight times this season not because of how good they are, but because of a weak schedule, and it will cost them here. The Cornhuskers just 12-25-1 ATS after allowing 275 yards or less in their previous game, while the Gamecocks are 9-4-1 ATS after a 20+ point win, and 21-10-1 to the OVER following an ATS win. Play on South Carolina and the OVER in this one.
