N.C. State finished 8-5 in 2022, a disappointing season when more was expected from an offense that averaged only 24 points. This year quarterback Devin Leary is gone and Virginia transfer Brennan Armstrong arrives after throwing for 2,210 yards with seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season with the Cavaliers. Only seven starters return on offense, but Armstrong has his old offensive coordinator back in Robert Anae. Still, the defense will be the Wolfpack's strong point as it allowed just 19 points per game and it features linebacker Payton Wilson, one of the top tacklers in the ACC. The teams met last year and Connecticut had only three points until a late touchdown and the Huskies lost 41-10 and were held to 39 passing yards. Coach Jim Mora has turned around the UConn program as it went to a bowl game for the first time since 2015 even while scoring only 19 points per game. Ten starters return from that offense and there are eight defensive returnees. The Huskies relied on the running game in 2022 and lost several receivers from that squad. Joe Fagnano will be the starting QB after four seasons with Maine and last year he threw for 2,231 yards and 15 TDs with six interceptions.
