Premium Pick

First road game for surprising Miami, which has been dominant on defense allowing 6.5 points per game. The UNDER is 8-3 in the Hurricanes' last 11 road games. Miami leads the country in team tackles for loss with 28 total. The Canes also are tops nationally in rushing defense, allowing just 34.5 rushing yards in the first two games. They're also No. 1 in the nation in sacks. Miami is 41-18 UNDER the total in non-conference games, plus 36-17-1 UNDER after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. They head to an Appalachian State squad also playing great defense, allowing 13.5 points per game, and they've played one overtime tilt. That OT was against powerhouse Tennessee of the SEC, allowing 192 yards passing while holding the talented Vols to 3.0 yards per rush. The Mountaineers went 11-2 in 2015, the most wins ever by a team in its first year of FBS bowl eligibility after transitioning from FCS. They like to run the pigskin behind running back Marcus Cox, but he was bottled up by the first two Power Five opponents he faced (Georgia 2013, Michigan 2014). He averaged 3.1 yards per carry. He got 103 yards against Clemson last season, but that was on 25 carries. This shapes up as a defensive duel, and Appalachian State has gone UNDER the total in seven of its last eight non-conference games. Play this one UNDER the total.
