The recent success at Idaho was brief as the Vandals stumbled to 1-11 last year. They were as weak as it gets on offense last season, averaging just 15.8 points per game, which was second from the bottom. They failed to reach 30 points in any game through regulation and on the road they averaged just 12 points per game. Paul Petrino will bring in better recruits, but what he has to work with this year is troublesome. The problems, however, don't end on offense as the Vandals allowed 42.4 ppg a year ago. The ugly truth is that this team has a gaping wide gap to bridge and at this point, they don't have the players to do it. North Texas joins C-USA this season. QB Derek Thompson will be starting his third year, and while he has been erratic, he should find some lanes to throw in vs. a weak Vandals' defense. North Texas has a strong back seven, and with the Vandals likely playing from behind, that could get ugly. Go with North Texas.
