Florida Atlantic at Rice

Rice has never been a consistent program. They seem to rise up as they did from 2012-2014 in winning 25 games, but are back down again at just 6-14 since, including 1-7 this year. A quick look over the last five years points to the key reason why. The Owls offense has eroded steadily over the last five years with this sequence of points scored, going down each year from 31.8, 29.6, 28.8, 26.1, to the current 24.4, as this is the worst offense in half of a decade. Unfortunately, Florida Atlantic is even worse offensively, producing just 20 points per game on the season. That may be generous, because the Owls are actually producing just 17.4 points per game against FBS competition. While the defenses here are not that great, neither offense has the tools to take advantage. Someone is going to have to get in the 30s to put this one over the top, something that isn't likely from two terrible offensive teams. This one stays UNDER.
