First-year BYU coach Kalani Sitake is a former Utah assistant and inherits a strong all-around team with excellent experience and balance. Cougars senior running back Jamaal Williams didn't play last season due to personal reasons. He played last week and looked sharp with 162 yards rushing in an 18-16 victory over Arizona. The performance raised his career total to 2,688 for fifth-most in school history. 26-year-old senior quarterback Taysom Hill was 21-of-29 passing for 202 yards and one touchdown in the opener. The Cougars are 7-2-1 ATS after scoring fewer than 20 points in their previous game. The BYU defense is also strong behind senior free safety Kai Nacua (nine career interceptions), while a pair of sophomores played great last week in middle linebacker Butch Pau'u (nine tackles, one sack, one forced fumble) and LB Francis Bernard (one interception, one sack). The Utah Utes are home and weren't tested in last week's Southern Utah win (24-0) like they will be here. Utah is just 2-8 ATS after allowing fewer than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The Utes had a 35-28 victory over the Cougars in last season's Las Vegas Bowl. It was a strange game with Utah leading 35-0 in the first, but BYU showed no quit in a near comeback. BYU dominated the stats with 386 total yards (315 passing), while Utah had just 203 total yards (2.7 yards per rush). The dog has covered five of the last six meetings between these in-state rivals and the talented visitors match up well. Play BYU.
