Arizona State at California

Kenny Dillingham was saddled with a tough early schedule in his first year as coach at Arizona State and after an opening win against FCS Southern Utah the Sun Devils have lost to Oklahoma State, Fresno State and USC although they covered as a 34.5-point underdog against the Trojans losing 42-28 last week. The Sun Devils showed much improvement as they kept it close against the Trojans until the fourth quarter and they finished with 353 total offense yards. Arizona State also kept its penalty yardage down and were competitive despite missing 11 players due to injury and running back Cameron Skattebo rushed for 111 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown and he caught four passes for 79 yards. California is 2-2 with the wins coming against North Texas and Idaho and the Golden Bears were routed by Washington 59-32 last week when Michael Penix Jr. took apart their defense and went 19-for-25 for 304 yards and four TDs. That kind of defense is not conducive to covering double-digit point spreads and the Bears have lost nine of their past 12 games outright. Take Arizona State.
