Duke Blue Devils vs Virginia Tech Hokies

The Virginia Hokies are suffering through a very difficult season at 2-7. You have to go all the way back to the 1992 season when the Hokies won fewer than five games. The offense generates just 20.2 PPG, but the defense is allowing just 25 PPG. Duke is 6-3 on the season and has held down poor offensive teams this season. Virginia Tech will be one of the best defensive teams if not the best defensive teams they faced all season so I don't think the offense reaches their averages. Neither of these teams plays at a particularly fast pace. A team off of at least three games in a row that have played to the OVER, and average 31 PPG or more are 191-125 to the UNDER the last five seasons. Make the play on the UNDER.

Both teams are having disappointing seasons, and Virginia Tech should not be laying double digits against many teams as the Hokies just lost their fourth in five games, 17-3 at Boston College on Friday. They rushed for 162 yards, but the passing game was almost non-existent as Knox Kadum completed only 7 passes for 73 yards. Meanwhile, the Eagles racked up 234 yards rushing on 4.3 yards per carry. Virginia Tech is #110 in total offense and #113 in passing yardage. Duke did total 384 yards of offense, including 143 on the ground, in a 54-29 loss to Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils used four quarterbacks, led by Gunnar Holmberg, who finished 16 of 23 for 174 yards and a TD. Duke has covered four of the last six meetings, including a 38-31 loss as an 11.5-point underdog last year, and the dog has covered seven of the last eight meetings. The last three meetings have easily stayed UNDER. Virginia Tech has gone UNDER in its last two games this season, following a 24-17 victory over Furman that went UNDER by 23.5 points. Virginia Tech didn't expect to have an explosive offense after returning only six starters, including two on the offensive line, but the defense was a different story as they returned 10 starters and the Hokies allowed 17 points in each of their last two games. QB Ryan Willis managed the game well, finishing 17-of-21 for 123 yards and a touchdown for the Hokies. Duke has bounced back from an opening loss to Alabama to win its next two games while giving up an average of 15.5 points. The Blue Devils ran the ball 45 times against Middle Tennessee and gained 226 yards. Quentin Harris had a solid performance in completing 24-of-27 for 237 yards and four TDs. The UNDER is 12-4 in Duke's last 16 conference games and 10-4 its last 14 road games. Also, the Blue Devils have stayed UNDER in six of their last seven after scoring at least 40 points their previous game. Take the UNDER.
