What do you make of two higly regarded national programs, stripped of almost everything from a year ago? It all comes down to recruiting. Tom Izzo has brought in some nice players, but Rick Barnes has hit the jackpot. This could well turnout to be the "fab five" revisited. Barnes has already had moments in the early going with 5 freshmen on the floor at once, and they have looked scarily good already. The sky is the limit with this bunch. The top prize is Kevin Durant, who would be on an NBA floor without the new rule. All he has done in his first two games is average nearly a double-double. He is at 20.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Fellow frosh D.J. Augustin scored 13 and dished out 7 assists in his last game, and Damion James is averaging 13.5 ppg. Holdover A.J. Abrams has stepped up his game as a sophmore and has gone from 6.4 ppg to 20.5 ppg! Michigan St. has done a nice job early, but the talent difference in this one is much greater than the point-spread, and it certainly looks like the hyped recruiting class of Texas is more than ready to live up to that billing. Hook 'em horns!
