Mercer at Winthrop

Winthrop won its first game over Mary Baldwin 110-78 with D.J. Burns scoring 30 points, but now the Eagles face a real team in Mercer, which lost 74-61 at Arkansas on Tuesday. Winthrop is picked to finish near the top of the Big South Conference with a new coach, Mark Prosser, and the Eagles have an experienced roster led by Burns, who is 6-9, 275 pounds and shot 58.2 percent last season. Mercer has three starters back from an 18-11 team, but lost Ross Cummings, who averaged 13.2 points per game.
