Maryland at Georgetown

Maryland returns its star point guard Melo Trimble, but otherwise has nine freshmen on the roster and that showed as the Terrapins escaped with a 62-56 win as a 20.5-point favorite over American in their season opener. The Terps shot just 38.5 percent while Trimble scored a team-leading 22 points with only four assists. Maryland lost its top four scorers from last season, including Jake Layman and Diamond Stone to the NBA. Georgetown had no trouble with South Carolina Upstate, winning 105-60 as Rodney Pryor poured in 32 points and four other players scored in double figures. The Hoyas shot an astounding 66.7 percent from the field and made 9-of-17 from three-point range. The Hoyas lost D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, but the other starters are back from last season plus a couple of transfers, including Pryor.
