The top two passers in the NFL clash in this game. Both Phillip Rivers and Kyle Orton are on pace to break Dan Marino's record for 5,084 passing yards in a season, set back in 1984. The Chargers are the most prolific team in the NFL in yards gained, but it hasn't translated into as many points as it should as they rank fourth in points scored. They also own the league's best defense as measured by yards (275 per game). But, they've given up more points than they should thanks to poor special teams play and untimely turnovers. The Denver Broncos have passed the ball well most of the season, but have not been able to run the ball at all. They are generating just 76 yards per game on the ground at just 3.2 yards per carry. This will be a difficult spot for them as they face a 4-5 San Diego team that is better than their record, and has a history of finishing strong. On the road this season, Denver's offense has been very mediocre, putting up just 19 points per game. Now they face the best defense in the league - a defense that has held opponents to just 256 yards per game here at home. The Chargers allow the fewest passing yards in the NFL, so the Broncos are going to have more trouble than usual scoring in this one. If they slow down Orton, Denver doesn't have much offense. That makes an extremely high total vulnerable. The Chargers have a big offense, but there are issues here. Wideouts Malcolm Floyd and Legedu Nanee are dealing with a hamstring issues and Antonio Gates ailing with planter fascia in his foot. As a result, the Chargers may put the ball on the ground more here vs. a Denver team that allows just shy of 4.5 yards a carry and 143 yards per game. I see San Diego scoring here, but I can't see Denver putting up enought to push this game north of 50. I like this one to go UNDER the total.
