Washington is running on adrenaline after coming back and defeating the Dodgers on Howie Kendrick's grand slam and then two days later winning Game 1 against the Cardinals as Anibal Sanchez threw a near no-hitter in a 2-0 victory. Now the Nationals have their three best pitchers ready for the rest of the series starting with Max Scherzer, who finished the regular season with a 2.92 ERA and he has allowed just four earned runs in 13 innings of postseason action. Scherzer was 7-2 with a 2.64 ERA and .218 opponent batting average on the road and Washington has won 14 of his last 17 starts overall and 36 of his last 51 road starts. The Nationals are 13-3 their last 16 against right-handed starters and St. Louis has lost five of its last seven versus righty starters. The Cardinals are 4-9 their last 13 playoff games.
