Top pick: #3 (SNOOPY ROCKS) - Probable favorite has been competitive in all three starts and has shown steady improvement since his debut here July 12. Latest saw him set the pace and weakened in the last 1/16th to finish third of six on a muddy track. Trainer Debbie Rombis adds blinkers this evening and this 3-year-old by Tejano Run has a near bullet work 10 days ago probably with the "hood" on that morning. Much the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #5 (Phillie's Champ) - Charles Town shipper chased and tired after a slow start there when debuting just 10 days ago. Barn brings him back quickly, moves him up in class, and stretches him out a bit in distance. Home-bred can be a factor at a nice price.
3rd pick: #1 (Big Vig Star) - Ships back from Presque Isle where he finished an even fourth racing for $12.5K Aug. 24. Previous start saw him close fast and nip "Snoopy" right on the wire to finish second. Has the rail, moves back up in class, but will need to do better for any shot at the win.
