Racing at this tag, he broke on top, set fast fractions, and held gamely to finish third of 12, beaten just over a length. The horse to beat in this abbreviated sprint (five-furlongs).
2nd pick: #8 (Coyotero) (5-1) - He also has some speed and exits the same July 30 contest as the top pick. Grey gelding raced just off of him and tired late to check in seven lengths back of that rival. Working very fast for this, including a bullet half-mile gate breeze (best of 39) at Del Mar on the morning of Sept. 1. Win candidate.
3rd pick: #4 (No Bachi) (6-1) - Gelding moves up in class in his first off a claim by Vince Smith. 3yo was away slowly, rushed up to contest the pace, and held strongly to miss by a "nose." He tackles much tougher today, but should be in it from start-to-finish.
4th pick: #10 (El Desperado) (3-1) - He's been away since late August of 2013 when he showed some speed facing much tougher at Del Mar. Working fast locally for his return, colt draws a tough post at this trip, and needs to break fast for any chance.
5th pick: #5 (Warren's Sunny Boy) (12-1) - Plodding type has made up ground in his last pair and finished third here at this level on July 10. May grab a share at a square price.
