Bet this race at Top pick: #5 (Prevalence) (6-1) - Prevalence didn't fare well in its last race, stretching it out over 1-mile for the first time in its short career. The horse also struggled with a fever the previous week and missed several days of training. However, he is back to perfect health, and at 1-mile or less, this horse is unbeaten (2-0) winning in January and March. Prevalence is the son of Medaglia d'Oro, a thoroughbred who won at the 2002 Travers Stakes and the 2003 Whitney Handicap. He also finished 2nd in the 2002 Belmont Stakes and the Breeders' Cup in both 2002 and 2003.
2nd pick: #6 (Starrininmydreams) (5-1) - This horse had a third-place finish at Keenland in his last outing at 1 1/6. He has two wins in his last five races and four of those were longer than this one. And in its only race 1-mile or less, Starrininmydreams came in first place at a time of 1:17.50. Both wins were here at Churchill Downs, too, one a 6 1/2-furlong race that he took by three lengths after setting the pace.
3rd pick: #4 (Defunded ) (6-1) - Defunded has three races with finishes of 1st, 3rd, and 4th. The fourth-place finish in its last race at Santa Anita was longer than this one, but the horse is better suited to a shorter distance, winning a Maiden Special Weight at six furlongs two races ago at 1:09.88. Trained by Bob Baffert, Defunded is suited for a strong performance on this 1-mile course.
